Agedis Experience

Supporting a hosted server through to the question of restoration

After a hosting service, a customer asked to clarify how his backup worked. The team confirmed its implementation and prepared for the next verification step.

Backup confirmed in place; restoration tests announced to come

Continue the exchange after provision

In this 2021 case, receiving a server hosting invoice led the client to ask questions about protecting their environment. He wanted to know if the backup was now configured, with what frequency and with what scope. These questions are directly linked to the use of a hosted service: the company needs to understand what is protected and what it could find in the event of difficulty.

Confirm the step already in place

The team confirmed that the server was backed up in a separate location. This response identifies an action performed, while leaving several operational questions to be clarified. Having a copy is a first reference for the customer. You must then link this copy to your need: find documents, make services available or understand the limits of the system. Each objective requires modalities which must be defined in the service chosen.

Preparing for data recovery

The response also announced upcoming file restoration tests. This step must be distinguished from setting up the backup: creating a copy and checking how to recover a file are two different operations. The project therefore had a safeguard in place and a verification still to be organized. The tests can be used to specify the recovery conditions, the people concerned and the elements necessary for the restoration to take place, according to the scope planned with the client.

Linking accommodation, systems and support

This historical experience illustrates a way of continuing support after the initial service. The dialogue allows you to specify the operation of the service and the next checks. Today, the proposed complementarity is based on clear roles: Agedis supports servers, systems and their operation; Cloudlab provides the data center component when an external hosting environment is necessary. For each project, this articulation must be prepared with the backup and recovery needs, without confusing a stage completed with a stage yet to be organized.
